The selection of manufacturing material and processes have been honed and refined to ensure that Weber® quality and durability remain unsurpassed: the use of only low carbon steel, the porcelain enamel finish fired on at 870°c for superior heat reflection, the rust protection and years of fire-proof service, sophisticated robot welding that ensure precise welds time after time. Nothing is left to chance.

Pressing a Weber® charcoal barbecue into the right shape is no easy process. Huge rolls of steel weighing around 20 tonnes are mounted on the large die-cutting machines. Round steel plates are die-cut and then coated with a biodegradable lubricant to prevent the steel from cracking in the moulding press. The press applies about 800 tonnes of pressure to convert the round plates into perfect half spheres.

Easy to assemble

Many other barbecue manufacturers take the easy option and use cost-cutting measures in the production process resulting in a barbecue that’s difficult to assemble. Weber® has chosen to ensure that their barbecues are easy to put together. We therefore take extra time and expense during production to weld steel handles, hooks and adapters (for mounting legs) using high tech welding robots, which ensure a precise and durable weld. These little details mean that Weber owners are never left standing with a handful of screws and nuts that make barbecue assembly a nightmare. Instead they have a barbecue which is both quick to assemble and will not rust.

The difference in enamel

Standard enamel, used by many barbecue manufacturers looks goods as long as the product is new, but once briquettes or gas flames heat the enamel, it cannot last the distance. Because Weber® burns the porcelain enamel onto the steel at a higher temperature than the heat source used in cooking Weber® barbecues can handle the high heat without peeling. Porcelain enamel is therefore the best barbecuing costing – but not the cheapest.

Barbecues without compromise

There is no compromise on quality during the production on gas barbecues either. High priority is given to checking their technical components and testing before installation. Then checked again by quality inspectors, performing ‘ignite/burn’ tests to ensure ignition works and that the burners heat uniformly.
